Maui fire crews responded to an early morning fire at the Kula Lodge restaurant Monday, August 11. The fire forced the closure of Haleakalā Highway between Upper Kimo Drive and Ainakula Road for several hours while emergency crews responded to the scene. The fire was first reported before 4 am. The five lodges and the nearby Kula Marketplace, which sells gifts from over 200 local artists and artisans, were not damaged. At this time the cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation.
