Student loan debt has fallen across most of the US over the past year, but residents in some states are still carrying thousands of dollars more than the national average. Wyoming has the lowest student loan debt of any state, averaging $3,180 per person. That’s 41.8% below the national average. Hawaii’s a good place to further your education. Hawaii has the second-lowest balance at $3,810 per person, which is 30.2% below the US average. Student debt fell particularly quickly here as well, dropping by $290, or 7.1%, in the space of a year.
