Pāʻia Elementary School was closed today(September 24) due to the impacts of the wildfire in the Pa’ia area that was first reported at 1:30 pm yesterday near Holomua Road and Baldwin Avenue in Pāʻia. The fire had burned 300 acres as of approximately 5:30 pm. No forward progress of the fire overnight. Firefighters spent the night monitoring the perimeter and addressing hot spots and flare ups. Maui Fire Department firefighters supported by tankers and heavy equipment will continue work today to improve containment and work toward extinguishment.
