Maui’s Cycle To The Sun

Drivers should expect delays near Haleakalā National Park during the annual Cycle to the Sun race from 8 am to 1:30 pm Saturday, August 2, according to National Park officials. You’re advised to watch for cyclists and anticipate slower traffic throughout the area during this time. It starts in Pa’ia at sea level and finishes up on top of the Haleakala Volcano at just above 10,000 feet.  It was first held in the 1980s. Since 2008, Cycle To The Sun has been organized and produced by Go Cycling Maui and Maui Cyclery. A portion of the entry fee also is donated to support of the non-profit Paia Youth & Cultural Center, a terrific organization that provides Maui kids with fun, educational and recreational activities.  To learn more about the event  go to cycletothesun.com.
